COST OF INCARERATION

The U.S. spends over $30,000 per year on each individual incarcerated.  1 out of ever 110 adults are incarcerated in the U.S.  Roughly 1/2 of the U.S. prison population is serving time for drug related offenses.  If you cut that number by 25% they could free up around 16 million dollars that could be reallocated to “real” re-entry programs and higher education.
